G is for Guitar Hero on PC (Frets on Fire)

January 29, 2009 at 6:18 AM (Rave) ()

If you have played Guitar Hero, do you know that there is a free version of this game for PC?

Frets on Fire

Frets on Fire

Well, its not exactly the real thing but its quite close and its FREE! Developed by Unreal Voodoo, it features songs from Guitar Hero, Rock Band & lots more! And you can download the X mod version also known as Frets on Fire X which allows you additional functions like changing the theme (ie. look of the game) and you can download themes like Guitar Hero or Rock Band if you wish to feel like playing the real thing.

Installation is easy, just like any other PC program. Geetar Freaks is an excellent source for additional themes and song packs which you can download and perform like a ROCK STAR!

Now comes the weird part : instead of a guitar controller, you use the keyboard. Thats quite a funny sight unless you invest in a guitar controller for the PC. LIke the one here.

UPDATE : You can use the controller from PS3 version of the game for this PC version. Just plug in the wireless receiver into your USB port and press the button on both receiver and controller to sync. Then go into KEY MAPPING OPTION in the PC game to map each button to the controller’s button. It works, I have tested it. I think the same can be done for the drums as well.

For XBOX360 version, I think the same can be done as well. Just try to get a PC driver for XBOX360 controller (GOOGLE IS YOUR BEST FRIEND) and install it. Then do the necessary to sync the controller with wireless receiver and then do the buttons mapping.

Now you can smash your air guitar and grab your keyboard instead.

P is for Car Polishing

January 21, 2009 at 4:08 AM (Babble) ()

This is specially for my dear friend who drives a white car and whose definition of a car wash is driving in the rain…

Easy steps to a shinier car

1) Park your car under shade. Hose down car with water

2) Wipe dry with cloth

3) Using a scratch remover like Meguiars Scratch X, scan the car for visible scratches and try to remove it with it by rubbing in some of the compound with a soft polishing cloth into the scratched area and then buff it off with a clean portion of the same cloth.

4) Apply a car polish like Autoglym’s Super Resin Polish on the entire car with a piece of soft cloth in a circular motion. Taking care not to exert too much force (unless tough scratches) as this stuff is quite strong. Wait for a fog to appear when the polish dries, then wipe off the fog with another clean soft cloth.

5) Apply a sealant or wax using the same method as in step (4).

6) Hose down the whole car again to wash away any unremoved fog and fog dust then wipe dry.

7) Wash the rims with car wash liquid diluted in water. For stubborn brake dust, a dedicated rims cleaning solution is required – spray on, leave on for 30 seconds then scrub the rims with a brush, if need be, use water to wash away the dislodged dust and continue scrubbing. Rinse the rims thoroughly after scrubbing. The rims solution may damage your rims if not removed thoroughly.

8 ) Spray Armourall protectant onto a sponge and wipe it over the tires to give it a new shiny look. Same can be applied onto plastic trimmings around the car like bumper, etc.

9) Stand back and enjoy the gleaming look of your new-again car and give yourself a pat on the back. 8)

Sumo Paint

Sumo Paint

This is further to my earlier post on image editors like Picasa, Photoscape, etc.

Sumo Paint is both an image editor as well as a creator. The interface is very similar to Adobe Photoshop but it has much lesser functions (what do you expect? its free!).

All editing is done online via its website. However, you can upload image files from your own computer to edit on the website.

Its easy to use and helps if you have a fast internet connection.

B is for Blue Hour

January 12, 2009 at 4:17 AM (Babble, Rave) ()

What is the blue hour?
Is it the hour most conducive for watching blue films and what is so special about this time of the day?
According to wikipedia, “the blue hour comes from a French expression (l’heure bleue), which refers to twilight, the period each morning and evening where there is neither full daylight nor complete darkness. The time is considered special because of the quality of the light at this time of day (also in photography; it is considered especially flattering for people with blond hair) and because in the summer, this is often when the smell of the flowers is at their strongest.”
Depending on how you wish to see it, it could be the best time of the day to do certain stuff, including but not limited to, watching blue movies, making out, walk on the beach, etc.
But for the purpose of my discussion today, the Blu Hour is the short time frame of each day that you can take photographs of the sky and get a nice bluish tint to it. Something like this here from mice007.hu :-

P is for Photoscape, Picasa & Picnik!

January 7, 2009 at 6:08 AM (Rave) ()

FREE IMAGE EDITORS

If you own a digital camera, you probably need an image editor. Abode Photoshop is very popular for editing images and more but it is very costly. For an occasional photographer, you probably won’t need (or know how) to do much editing, there is no point in spending money on feature-laden but costly software and end up using the very basic features only.

If your primary need is to enhance your photos, then Photoscape & Picasa are 2 free image editors that can help you do the job by enhancing your photos easily and are fun to use as well. It just takes a few clicks here and there, a little tweaking to get the correct amount of adjustments and if you are adventurous enough, there are some additional features to create special effects for your photos.

Picasa’s strength is in its image browsing feature - it allows very clear cut & easy browsing of all the photos stored in your PC and has image enhancing features like soft glow, gradient tint, etc which you can apply or undo easily. You can upload photos to your own picasaweb (Google’s version of Flickr) directly from the browser, create slideshows with music to name a few.

Photoscape on the other hand, has some fun features like Splitter - to split your photo into parts; Anigif – which creates an animation from a series of images; Combine - create a horizontal or vertical merging of a few photos. But the thing I like about both software are its clean interfaces and easy to understand lingo. Both work pretty fast and do not take up huge space on your harddisk. If your harddisk space permits, by all means download both since there are some features exclusive to each and you can enjoy best of both worlds.

Picnik is another good image editor ideal for those who are unable to install both software on your PC, for eg. it being an office computer, you can upload your images to Picnik.com and do the editing online. It offers some exclusive effects with cool names like lomo, goofy, pixelate, etc. Worth a try!

HONG KONG – More than 80 pictures of China’s top actress Zhang Ziyi sunbathing topless and frolicking on a beach have appeared on the Internet, sending netizens in China wild on Tuesday. The pictures, taken by a Los Angeles-based paparazzi agency, showed Zhang on the Caribbean island of St Barts with her fiance, Israeli investor Vivi Nevo, last Friday.Zhang was photographed in a red bikini reading a book, doing a bridge and even a splits on the sand.

She took off her red bikini top and rolled down her bottom as she sun bathed and the photographs captured her lying topless beside her fiance.

C is for Courage!

January 5, 2009 at 3:00 PM (Babble) ()

Re-discovered one of my favourite songs while browsing my old CD collection. Literally had to blow the dust off the CD cover.

If I had not browsed through my collection, I would have clean forgetten about this song. Its great to listen to it again, sounds as good as before.

I remember listening to this song again and again before the more difficult military exercises during my NS days to psyche up myself for the gruelling missions. I did not know if it works or not, but I did survived through it all. If ever there is a real war and I am called up for it,  this song will definitely in my playlist.

Putting this one up here to listen to it again whenever I need to muster up my courage to ask the ever so hot and sexy Jubbles out …
