A is for Apple!

After eating apples for at least 3 decades, I’ve only just discovered that there are so many different varieties of apples with cool names like Ambrosia, Pacific Rose, Honey Crisp & Braeburn to name a few. All these while, apples are just red or green apples to me, the good ones being sweet & crunchy while the not so good ones are sour or have a powdery texture.

I used to wonder what the 4 digit numbers on the stickers on the apples are for. Now I know these are not lucky numbers for you to buy 4D with, rather, these numbers stand for the apple’s variety. However, no one is gonna stop you from punting on those numbers, if you are a hard core 4D addict.

Each individual breed is characterised by tart, crisp, sweet, tangy, etc. My favourite? Its Pacific Rose for now, until I have tried all the different varieties.

The more common varieties like Granny Smith, Gala & Fuji are found easily at your heartland NTUCs, Sheng Siongs, Giants, Shop N Saves, etc. To get the Pacific Rose, Braeburn, etc, you may need to try the higher-class & more expensive Cold Storage, Jasons, Marketplace, etc. However, you may still be able to find the less common varieties at some of the neighbourhood fruit stalls, if you keep your eyes peeled (pun intended).
