Beach Road Market

http://www.streetdirectory.com/asia_travel/travel/travel_id_45159/travel_site_15507/

Also popularly known as Army Market, is a 2 storey houses a hawker centre on the ground floor and a sundry market on the upper floor. It is known as the Army Market because most of the shops on the upper floor sells military gear and equipment. Anything and everything that you may need in your 2 years of National Service can be purchased here, even army issued stuff like SAF talcum powder – which incidentally, was said to be effective in killing bed bugs. The only thing you cannot buy here is perhaps a life sized blow up doll of your girlfriend to bring back to camp.

According to urban legend, you could even buy sensitive equipment like parts of the M-16 at some shops. With most SAF camps having their own e-mart, the business for these shop owners have shifted to cater to travellers going on a hardship holiday, eg. camping, backpacking, hiking, disaster rescue etc. It is our very own but much smaller version of Bangkok’s Chactuchak market except that it is open all days of the week.

I remember sourcing high and low for a scouring pad known as Brillo for the purpose of polishing my mess tin to a glorified shine for standby purposes (no thanks to a sadistic platoon sergeant by the name of Brian Low – I can still remember your name cos you were an arse-hole). Tried many supermarkets and shops but couldn’t find this elusive Brillo. But lo and behold, I found plenty here at the Beach Road market. And this Brillo does work wonders, turning a matt finished mess tin to an almost glossy shine.

And oh yes, the purpose of this post is to inform everybody that Beach Road market located at 505, Beach Road is open till late at night (information provided by a reliable source). Even if your visit to the army market is futile, there is always great food at the hawker centre below to compensate for your effort.
If the food at the hawker centre is not your cup of tea, why not cross the overhead bridge to Thien Kee Steamboat Restaurant at 6001 Beach Road, #B1-20 Golden Mile Tower for one of the most authentic tasting hainanese chicken rice in Singapore and paired with traditional charcoal steamboat?

How to install Android on HP Touchpad

http://www.howtogeek.com/76960/how-to-install-android-on-your-hp-touchpad/

Ironically, the Touchpad is generating more interest for itself after being axed by HP shortly after its release. Whether its planned or accidental, it sure is a strange but successful marketing strategy.

Reasons for buying one :-

Its the best value for money tablet in the market right now, in terms of price vs product specifications. No other tablet of similar specs even come close to its price.

Dual boot possibility. When Andriod is successfully ported over, the Touchpad will be raised to “no horse run” status.

Fast dual-core processor.

No itunes required means no anal Apple restrictions. Just USB file explorer.

Capacitive screen, same as iPad. No need to press down on the screen to select.

Adobe Flash supported and can watch Catchup TV on xinmsn.com, try to beat that, iPad!

Even if the apps are crap, it can still serve as a portable media player well.

It can even be used as a serving tray long after its useful life.

Nice song for a couple deeply in love…

Do you remember when we were just kids
And cardboard boxes took us miles from what we would miss?
School yard conversations taken to heart
And laughter took the place of everything we knew we were not

I want to break every clock
The hands of time could never move again
We could stay in this moment for the rest of our lives
Is it over now, hey, hey, is it over now?

I want to be your last first kiss that you’ll ever have
I want to be your last first kiss

Amazing how life turns out the way that it does
We end up hurting the worst, the only ones we really love

I want to break every clock
The hands of time could never move again
We could stay in this moment for the rest of our lives
Is it over now, hey, hey, is it over now?

I want to be your last first kiss that you’ll ever have
I want to be your last first kiss

Is it over now, hey, hey, is it over now?
Is it over now? Hey, hey, it’s not over now

I want to be your last first kiss that you’ll ever have
I want to be your last first love that you’ll ever have
Lying here beside me, palms and eyes open wide
I want to be your last first kiss for all time

If you have pests in your home – not the pesky mother-in-law but the creepy crawlie kind – and you just couldn’t get them out of your house – here is an effective and cheap, yet non-toxic way to get them out of your home. Sandalwood incense. Sandalwood incense is traditionally burnt by some races/religions because they believe that the scent helps to ward off or appease the “unseen” spirits and protect the house from harm.

Burn them in the corners of the house where pests may be hiding, for eg. kitchen corners, toilet, store rooms. Before you start burning, remember to keep all your laundry somewhere as the fumes will stay on fabric long after the incense has stopped burning. Close all windows and start to fumigate the house!

These stuff are cheap and come in packs of 25 or 50s.
